April 14, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Experience Taiko Drumming and English Country Dancers and join in a Gallery dialogue on gender and human rights. Ongoing activities in and around the galleries include “Art Blast” tours of exhibitions showcasing the international dimensions of the Harn and the broader UF community.
In partnership with Center for Global Islamic Studies, visitors will have an opportunity to attend a screening of the acclaimed short film “Timmy II” followed by Q&A with Filmmaker and Actor Imran J Khan. Imran J. Khan is an award-winning writer, director, and editor. As a director, his short films have played at numerous film festivals in North America garnering him praise for his storytelling abilities, comedic voice, and exploration of themes inspired by his hyphenated background. The title of his presentation is “Hyphenated Identities in New America.”
The Museum Nite will also feature Ameena Khan, a local Gainesville artist, displaying pieces from her “Just a Peek, Please?” collection, including a veiled painting accomanied by a quote from a Muslim American woman, with the hopes to engage participants in inter-faith and inter-cultural dialogue through art.
Additional support for this evening is provided by the UF International Center in conjunction with UF’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), “Learning without Borders: Internationalizing the Gator Nation.”
